Blog: Advice

If Baruch College hired me to use new media to improve the college, I would implement 3 things. First, I will make a open online Baruch library where has all the textbook students need for different courses. By doing so, students can download the textbooks either for free or cheaper price. The problem is copyright. Therefore, Baruch should negotiate with the publications for a greater deal. We all know that if the textbook is too expensive, we can still find free online textbook online in some ways, but it might takes longer time. Then why don't publication lower the price for college students, so we can download the online version in a cheaper price. It benefits both sides, the publication and students. Second, I will implement a new and updated ID card which allows students and professors entering the building without swiping. We all know that it is annoying to take out our ID card and swipe every time we enter a new building. With a updated ID card, students can enter the building in a faster and efficient way without waiting on a line to swipe in a busy hour. Third, I will create a online platform where students can access course's information by different professors with the same course. By doing so, students can know the material better. We all know that some professors are better at teaching and some don't. Because most final exam are common final, I think it is fair to access all the information provided by different professors with the same course, so students can get a grade they deserve to have.

  1. In most classes ,I feel that professors pressure students to buy textbooks for Connect or any other online web platform. By distributing textbooks for free, students would not have to worry about paying a lot for their needed reading material. I think this is a great idea and can help a lot of struggling students.

  2. Aaron, your idea with creating a virtual library would definitely serve the students well. I, for example, have purchased two separate subscriptions to textbooks just to be able to do the homework for the course. Some professors also overestimate how much they use the text anyway. This idea, paired with the database of other professors' course material, would definitely benefit the College immensely.
