Blog Social networking
Social Networking is a powerful tool for everyone. It is undoubtedly that social networking is vital to become a successful person. The primary goal of social networking is to get connected with each other. For instance, a lot of people use Linkedin as a platform to find jobs, and employers can find the best candidates from those who applies the position. In addition, people use facebook to meet friends and for enjoyment. We also can share everything we want, or post a picture of where I went in this morning, or what I ate for dinner. People can share their remarkable and unforgettable moments to everyone. Furthermore, a lot of corporations and small companies use social networking for marketing purpose. This is a brilliant idea, because it is cost effective, which means corporations save a lot of money by doing so. At the same time, they can get feedback immediately from the public. Corporations also build relationship with customers by social networking. For example, Nike and Adidas have facebook page and instagram where people can follow and see their latest shoes. They are building relationship and brand loyalty. Therefore, social networking is very important to everyone in this society.
One interesting article I read is “How Obama Tapped Into Social Networks’ Power” by David Carr. Barack Obama successfully use social networking to win the presidency. The article mentions some of the advantageous by using social networking in political purpose. First, it says “you could use the Web to lower the cost of building a political brand, create a sense of connection and engagement, and dispense with the command and control method of governing to allow people to self-organize to do the work.” Second, Obama can do marketing to target specific group of people online. Since almost every teenager uses social media, it is good idea to target youths. Therefore, Barack Obama can get more vote on different type of people, which eventually lead to his presidency.
Although social networking and media have many benefits to us, there are some “dark sides” when using social media. According to the article, “Facebook Privacy Is So Confusing Even the Zuckerberg Family Photo Isn't Private” by Rebecca Greenfield, the context of this article is ironic. Randi Zuckerberg, the sister of Mark Zuckerberg, sets her account privacy and posted a family photo over the holiday, but the photo was shared on public where everyone can see it. This example can be a serious problem for Facebook. Loss of privacy is a serious issue when using social media. People can get your email, phone number, date of birth and other personal information if the software of the program is not strong enough. Not only that, some website can put a tracker on your computer when you click on their website. They can monitor and know what website you have visited. A lot of people might not know that when you are using google, google can hear what you speak, and the software will analyze what interested you the most, and they will put some advertisements on the website you are visiting, trying to attract you to buy it.
I think technology will focus on Artificial Intelligence in the future. Computer and software can be very useful and powerful tool in the future. It is because if the software is written property and perfectly, it will not make any mistakes. Unlike human, human makes mistake everyday, which costs a lot of money for corporation. A lot of technological corporations focus on A.I. now. If it makes some trilling achievements and the public sees it, it will change how people view media.
