Blog: Social networking sites
I personally use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Wechat frequently in my life. Although Instagram is part of Facebook, they are two different applications, and people use them differently. First of all, let me talk about Facebook. Facebook is a legendary to me. I learned that Facebook came from a college blog in Harvard University. Mark Zuckerberg created it in order to for Harvard students to share whatever they wanted to share. Facebook came from a small community to worldwide corporation. It is incredibly successful evolution for Facebook. Nowaday, people use Facebook to share stories, news, pictures and videos. It is entertained. More importantly, Facebook has a application called Messenger, which people use to send message to friends. I know that more and more American teenagers started to use Messenger to send message, instead of using iMessenger or Skype. It is much convenient to use Messenger to send message to friends or strangers because it is connected with Facebook.
The main purpose of using Instagram is to share and see photos and short videos. Some people prefer seeing photos and short videos, and not stories. It is a good application for me when I am bored and stressed. You can follow someone and see their latest posts. Some users posts funny memes and videos, and some users post their daily life activities. You can at someone or hashtag particular topic in your photos and videos. So when people are looking at specific topic, they can see your posts which are related to the topic.
Twitter is a great platform for companies to communicate with audiences. In addition, ordinary users can communicate with other people about specific topic, and there are approximately 332 million active users and 500 million twitter sends per day. It is a tool for companies to do marketing and inform audience about their companies latest status. Furthermore, Twitter can at someone or hashtag specific topic, just like Instagram.
Wechat is very popular communication application for Chinese. In china, almost everyone uses wechat to communicate. More importantly, people can pay goods by wechat, just like Apple Pay in United States. Wechat is also a social media where people can share opinion, thoughts, feelings, stories, pictures and videos. I believe Wechat will grow tremendously in the future.
Hi Aaron, I do have to agree with you on the fact that students use Facebook's messenger more frequently than iMessage or any other messaging application. Why do you think that is, perhaps it is easier to access?
